As I’m organising the Cycale weekend away, here’s the plan
I’ll try and arrange one night’s accommodation in the Southwold area for Saturday 28 June. As Mark mentioned at the meeting, many B and Bs insist on a minimum of two nights stay for summer weekends, so it may be difficult, especially if we are a large group (many B and Bs also have double rooms rather than twin, which could be a bit awkward!). So, I have a plan B – if I can’t find anything in or around Southwold, I may change the destination to Cambridge, where accommodation should be more plentiful. The youth hostel in Cambridge is currently being refurbished, (with twin rooms!), so that may be an option.
Plan A- Sat 28 Train to Stowmarket, a ride of up to 55 miles to Southwold, overnight stay, Sun 29 ride to Diss for train back to Colchester (ride back should be a bit shorter, but I haven’t worked it out exactly)
Or
Plan B – Sat 28 Train to Stowmarket, ride cycle route 51, about 55 miles to Cambridge, overnight stay, Sun 29 ride back to Sudbury for train back to Colchester (ride back should be a bit shorter, but I haven’t worked it out exactly)
The day one distance will be a bit longer than we usually do, while also carrying overnight gear, so a degree of fitness will be required.
Warning- this trip will involve venturing into Greene King / Adnams territory!!
So, could everyone who definitely wants to come along (no ifs, buts or maybes, please) please let me know ASAP. I’m looking to book accommodation ASAP, so please let me know no later than Sunday 19th of January, and I’ll look to book up the next day.
