This a reasonably strenuous but attractive walk of 13 miles approximately with highlights including an excellent view of the Orwell Bridge and estuary. There are a few parts where extreme care is necessary due to having to cross or walk along short sections of a busy road. Some of the terrain is muddy and wet so sturdy walking shoes or boots are necessary. Warm and waterproof clothing is also a must. A reasonably brisk pace will be needed in order to complete the walk in good time.
Meet 8.55 a.m. to catch 9.14 a.m. train to Manningtree. Then a three hour morning walk at reasonable pace rewarded by lunch at the Tattingstone White Horse. This is followed by a two and a half hour walk into Ipswich. We can visit one or two pubs in Ipswich if not too tired and then catch the train back to Colchester.
